STATUS QUO

by Maja Zade

Bad times for men – especially if they are young and pretty, looking for a job and called Florian. In a society that has eliminated the word “man” and in which “woman” is in charge, every Florian becomes a Flo. In the estate agent’s office he is exposed to the lack of distance of the boss, in the drugstore to the sexual assaults of the branch manager and in the theater to the director’s interests, only thinly disguised as artistic.

“status quo” shows the world as it is, just in reverse. Women are in power. The object of desire and discrimination – both in the professional and domestic spheres – is the man. With pointed dialogues and in situations that are as exemplary as they are comical, the play follows the ordeal of the three Flos. The trick is classic: the reversal of the real circumstances allows the mechanisms of power to emerge in the most beautiful way.
